Learn about our services below.

Thyroid Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Biopsy

For patients with thyroid nodules, a minimally invasive fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy can distinguish between benign and malignant nodules safely and easily – without surgery.

During an FNA, a very thin needle is used to remove cells from the nodule for evaluation and to rule out thyroid cancer. The procedure is guided by ultrasound, which displays live images of internal structures and tissues by sending sound waves into the area via a transducer held against the patient’s skin. It allows precise placement of the needle within the thyroid nodule.

In selected cases, we can also send FNA specimens for genetic/molecular testing to help distinguish between benign versus malignant nodules.

However, it is important to note that the vast majority – up to 80 percent – of thyroid nodules are benign.

Thyroid Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a noninvasive imaging test in which a handheld transducer is moved over the patient’s skin. It sends sound waves into the body that bounce off internal structures to create images of organs and tissues.

The real-time images provided by ultrasound are helpful in evaluating many endocrine conditions (like goiter) and can help guide certain procedures, such as a fine needle aspiration (FNP) biopsy of a thyroid nodule.

Insulin Pump Training & Management

If you are already on an insulin pump or interested in one, we provide extensive insulin pump training and management for the various insulin pumps available in the US.

We can help you fine-tune your pump settings for basal rates, boluses, carb and correction factors, and more. Our insulin pump trainer can give you tips and tricks to help you get the most out of your pump. At each visit, we’ll download data from your pump in our office so Dr. Krishna can review it and make any needed adjustments or other recommendations.

Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Education & Data Analysis

A continuous glucose monitor (CGM) device is a small, discreet sensor worn on the skin that measures the blood sugar every five minutes.

At Diabetes and Endocrinology Associates of Stark County, Inc., we can show you how to use the device and assess your blood glucose patterns.

In some cases, Dr. Krishna may recommend a 72-hour or week-long CGM trial (using one of our sensors if you don’t already have a CGM device). This can help determine your need for the device, as well as whether changes need to be made to your diabetes treatment plan.

Fibroscan-Transient Elastography

This is a rapid, painless non-invasive way to measure the stiffness of the liver. The stiffness measure can be an important part of understanding your overall liver health. Metabolic syndrome and diabetes mellitus patients often have underlying fatty liver or NASH. This test provides further insight regarding the liver in these cases as well.

Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA)

The bioimpedence device measures body composition, fat levels, lean body mass, and calculates metabolic rate as part of our weight management program.

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) with Doppler Ultrasound

ABI is a quick, noninvasive screening test that compares blood pressure at the upper arm to that at the ankle. If blood flow is slower at the ankle, it may indicate peripheral artery disease (PAD), which is especially common in diabetics.

When the diagnostic test is combined with an ultrasound, a handheld device (transducer) is placed on the patient’s legs and ankles, which sends sound waves into the body to bounce off internal structures and soft tissues, creating an image of them. This is used to identify possible narrowing of blood vessels. A Doppler ultrasound is used because it can also identify the speed of blood flow.

Electrocardiography (EKG)

This noninvasive and painless diagnostic test uses electrodes placed on the skin of the torso to measure the electrical activity of the heart. It offers quick results and is used to identify heart-rhythm abnormalities, which may indicate heart disease.

Endocrine Blood Tests

For your convenience, we offer an in-house blood drawing center for most tests, so you don’t have to spend your time going to an outside lab.

For our diabetic patients, we can also test your hemoglobin A1C (the test that measures the average of your blood glucose levels over a 3-month period) right here in our office. All it takes is one finger stick and you’ll know what your A1C is in 5 minutes.
